- Metropolitan Jewish Home Care, Inc., Billed for Home Health Services That Did Not Comply with Medicare Requirements
The generosity of grateful families, private and corporate donors and grants, as well as our own employees, support our specialized services not reimbursed by government programs or private insurance. We recommend that Metropolitan exercise reasonable diligence to identify and return overpayments in accordance with the 60-day rule and identify any returned overpayments as having been made in accordance with our recommendations. Prior OIG reviews of home health services identified significant overpayments to HHAs.

The aide would come in the afternoon and by that time I had everything done. There was nothing more to do because I already showered him, gave him his breakfast and his lunch, so it really was not a help. What I really needed was the physical therapy for my husband, and he received 3 or 4 physical therapy sessions and that was it. The agency themselves is very good and I would still recommend them.

In written comments on our draft report, Metropolitan generally disagreed with our findings and recommendations and stated that nearly all of its claims for home health services complied with Medicare payment requirements. After reviewing Metropolitan's comments and additional documentation provided, we revised our findings and related recommendations for 19 claims that we questioned in our draft report and eliminated 2 findings. Excellent physical therapy, good visiting nurses, but very poor oversight of home health aides -- they just don't show up. No follow-up when things go wrong, do not return phone calls about problems. Use the location bar above to find providers of these services in your area.
